Auckland’s waterfront tower officially opens
June 13, 2002
The Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Helen Clark, tonight officially opens the PricewaterhouseCoopers Tower on Auckland’s waterfront.
The official opening of the building marks the end of a three-year project to build New Zealand’s best office tower. The project incorporates the latest thinking in office development – from hotel-styled public lobbies to ultra-large column-free office floors.
The PricewaterhouseCoopers Tower was developed by AMP NZ Office Trust, a unit trust listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange. The building is expected to have a value of around $170 million, will add to AMP NZ Office Trust's earnings, and will boost its net tangible asset value.
The Trust’s executive manager, Robert Lang, said the project’s successful conclusion was the result of a uniquely collaborative approach involving the Trust, the anchor tenants - PricewaterhouseCoopers and Buddle Findlay, the architects Stephenson & Turner, and Fletcher Construction.
The 32-level tower has 23 expansive 1,358 sqm, triangular floor plates, totalling around 30,000 square metres of office space. Occupancy has reached 84% and tenants include leading international and New Zealand companies such as PricewaterhouseCoopers, Buddle Findlay, WestpacTrust, Jones Lang LaSalle, the Australian Consulate, Challenger International, Landco and AMP.
AMP NZ Office Trust (ANZO) is the owner of seven of New Zealand's premium office buildings, including the Auckland’s PWC Tower, ANZ Centre, NZI House, Quay Tower; and Wellington’s IBM Centre, Accenture Tower, and No.1 The Terrace. ANZO’s portfolio value is approximately $560 million and portfolio occupancy stands at around 97%.
Mr Lang said ANZO's investment policy is to invest predominantly in prime CBD office properties in major New Zealand cities. “Our objective is to maintain and enhance the quality of the portfolio through active management. In pursuing this objective ANZO expects to maximise the total returns for our investors within a moderate risk profile.
ANZO is managed by AMP Henderson Global Investors, New Zealand’s largest private property investment manager with a $1.5 billion of property under management.
